Health Conciliation
Mediation Leeds provides a Conciliation Service for the Primary Care Trusts in both Leeds and Bradford to help with complaints made by patients about services they have received from the NHS.
Complaints can be made by patients about any type of service that the NHS provides: GPs, dentists, community pharmacists and opticians. About 85% of the complaints made are about GPs, which is inevitable since more than 90% of patient contact with the NHS is through family doctors.
As with neighbour disputes, many complaints about NHS services arise because of poor communication and an inability or an unwillingness (at least at first) for one party to see the other's point of view. With the help of an independent third party - a conciliator - both parties can be helped to resolve the complaint in a way that gets at the real issues, touching every aspect of the problem in a constructive way that allows the patient to put the complaint behind them and move on with their lives and the practitioner to reflect on what has happened and improve things for the future.
